The Joy and Gratitude Podcast
”Joy and Gratitude” Through courageous and open hearted conversations, we drive self-reflection, create deeper level connections and provide a supportive community. We help individuals consider the power of choice and shift to the role of creator in all aspects of their lives. Can you live from the inside out? Focus on your inner wisdom and intuition? Beth Mercurio and Nio Queiro had one connection call that they can only describe as electric. From that moment on they knew they were going to collaborate and connect people. In sharing their stories they realized that their separate journey’s led them to understand the power of joy and gratitude and it’s impact on how we choose to live our lives each and every day. By finding joy in the small moments and acknowledging that which we are grateful for we are able to experience the power of presence and rejuvenation.

Have you ever thought about the state of overwhelm as a habit? Nio and Beth dig into this topic and get excited about the idea of shifting this “habit” of overwhelm into movement and action. Can we get focused, be disciplined and allow ourselves to prioritize our energy and our essence? If we give 1000% to one thing and remove the noise, how could that feel? What if that laser focus makes us feel accomplished, successful, and motivated. Let’s experiment with allowing ourselves to lean into one thing, face our fears and take action. Break it down, be patient with yourself and choose to take one step forward.
Together they unpack:
Why overwhelm can feel familiar and even addictiveHow mental noise steals our energy and focusThe power of discipline, prioritization, and intentional actionWhat happens when we give our full attention to one thingHow small steps can create momentum, confidence, and peace
This conversation is an invitation to slow down, simplify, and move forward with purpose. What if success isn’t about doing everything… but about fully showing up for what matters most?
“Break it down, be patient with yourself, and choose to take one step forward.”

Beth and Nio talk about how our ego can be a saboteur of growth and centeredness. Learning how to handle our ego and use it to feel confident and empowered in the service of others can be positive but when we allow our ego to be self-serving the impacts are often negative and we miss opportunities to grow and show up as our best selves.

This simple question “How are you doing?” can provide us with a much-needed personal check in. Are we honest with our answer? Is our answer surface level or do we provide a deeper answer that builds connection? Are there people and places that impact how we answer? Why do we ask about “doing” instead of “being”? We are conditioned to be performative instead of just being present in ourselves. Beth and Nio dive into all of these reflections and remind us that fundamentally we have choice in how we answer and in how we tune into what is really going on within us. Let’s use this question as a way to check in with ourselves personally each and every day. Then, perhaps when we ask it of others or are asked by others we can answer with intention and vulnerability.

What does it mean to be a life-long learner? We each have a unique foundation of learning from different areas, whether it be education, experiences, generational wisdom, etc. There is a superpower in being open and curious about expanding your foundation. Do you ask clarifying questions, do you try new things, do you learn from your children, do you learn from your elders? What if at the end of the day, you shared with your family, friends, community, at least one new thing you learned that day? We encourage each of us to lean into this superpower and use lifelong learning to enhance our interactions and improve our world.

Nio and Beth go deep on what respect means and why it is so important, especially now. Can we hold ourselves accountable and de-escalate when someone disrespects us? It takes self-leadership to pause and make a choice about how we react. To practice respect, we must start with ourselves. If we lead from a place of centeredness and self-respect, we are more readily able to grant grace and assume positive intent. Join us in this important conversation about how we each need to choose to be a human that models respectful behavior and disengages or de-escalates in the face of disrespect. R-E-S-P-E-C-T
In this episode, we explore:
What true respect looks like in everyday interactions
The connection between self-respect and how we treat others
How to de-escalate conflict instead of feeding it
Why assuming positive intent can shift everything
The role of self-leadership in challenging moments

We know one thing is for certain - change happens. Small, silly things can throw you off. Big, hard things hit when you least expect it. How can we create a strong and sturdy foundation so that when the change comes, we can come back to center and reground? Whatever happens, it is temporary. Focus on what you can control, get clarity, be kind to yourself and build a strong foundation. Like a weeble wobble, you can weeble, you can wobble but you will not fall down.

In this very special and memorable episode, Beth and Nio sit down with Beth’s father, Win Hodges, to hear about his learning journey and the wisdom he wants to share after 85 years of life. We learn about Win’s view that cancer was a gift to him as it forced him to think about what he wanted in life and how to shift towards a more centered way of living: one where he was able to be himself and find joy in each day. We talk about the powerful message of “you be you” and finding ourselves and our purpose. Win’s “mission to contribute to the light” is inspiring and reminds us all that in the yin and yang of life we can still choose our role and lean into joy and gratitude along the way. Join us and hear Win’s emotional and beautiful lifelong learnings. It may stick with you - it certainly will stick with us.
Note from Beth: It is with peace, love and immense gratitude that I share that my dad passed away since this recording. His wisdom feels all the more meaningful and precious to us now. I will cherish this pod forever and hope you enjoy it.
